Introducing ‘Creative Collaborations’       January 2022

Learning Links International based in North Wales, has gained a small grant to work with SenYAcum in Jamaica and Jamaica Heritage Links in England, to develop ‘Creative Collaborations’ to bring together a small team of creative artists with Jamaican heritage living in UK, and those who have developed their careers in Jamaica, aiming to address the challenges and explore the potential of moving to online performance and presentation.

Initial consultation between the two UK organisations: Learning Links International and Jamaica Heritage Links, with our international partner, Yasus Afari / SenYAcum / Edutainment Promotion has created the basic agreement for this project:

‘to explore digital online collaboration between artists, creative practitioners, and organisations in the four nations across the UK and artists, creative practitioners, and organisations in Jamaica’.

We will run online training workshops on 'ways of improving online presentation' throughout the year, to share insights to help creative artists develop the new technical skills needed to create polished and effective online presentations and approaches.

We will alos create online events to celebrate and showcase these skills, and to raise the profile of the achievements of creative artists from the Jamaican and Caribbean to UK communities, as well as to share the talents of those based in the UK from the Jamaican / Caribbean Diaspora, to communities in Jamaica.

There will also be opportunities created for creative artists to review and reflection on the approaches being developed by other creative artists and entrepreneurs.

This project will also take on the challenge faced by Jamaica Heritage Links to adapt the concept of JCDC Jamaican Culture Clubs, to create Caribbean Culture and Heritage sessions online for families, led by creative artists from UK and Jamaica.

The outcomes will be the development of improved online presentation skills and approaches, and the creation of an online resource bank for communities and schools, as well as Family Learning resources.

The project is based on the online approach being successfully developed by Jamaican Dub Poet, Yasus Afari Managing Director of SenYAcum, in transferring the Jamaica Poetry Festival and other events to online presentation, engaging artistes from around the world.

Learning Links International was developed by Liz Millman, Natalie Fagan-Brown and colleagues, with support and encouragement from Yasus Afari.

Liz Millman will be the Project Manager; she is currently in Australia.

Yasus Afari is the main Creative Lead based in Jamaica.

Natalie Fagan-Brown is taking on a co-ordinating role for UK based poets

Marcia Dunkley from Jamaica Heritage Links is the UK based link for Caribbena Culture clubs.

The project will initially run through 2022, and is based around existing plans for events and new events, throughout the year.
