Feasibility Study

The Heritage Trust is pleased to announce the appointment of Rob Robinson, Heritage Consultant to carry out the feasibility study/business case for the trust over the next 4 months towards creating a new heritage centre. This will involve consulting the community, key stakeholders and visitors. The study has been funded by the £10000 grant from “Awards for All”, Big Lottery Fund. Rob is an experienced heritage professional who has worked as a strategic planning consultant since 1999 and is based in Edinburgh. We look forward to his help in taking the project forward. Rob intends spending a week in early February on the island as part of his study. We are particularly grateful to the help Ailsa Raeburn Development Manager at Kilmartin Museum gave us in advertising and selecting for the post.

Port Mòr Site

Following the success of the temporary heritage exhibition in the old power house at Port Mor over the summer and in view the positive feedback received, the Heritage Trust are of the opinion that this may pose a better site for the proposed new centre. Accordingly the Trust has approached Colonsay Estate and the common grazing shareholders to investigate the possibility of developing this site. This is at an early stage and would of course depend on a lot of factors including community support for this if it is an option. Part of the feasibility study would be to appraise both sites and Rob will be keen to get members views on this. Clearly the result of the study will influence any decision and in the meantime the Trust remains committed to the original Port Mor site at Baile Iodrach.

Easy Funding www.easyfunding.com

This continues to generate a small income for the trust when making on-line purchases but is still very underused. We would encourage members to spread the word through their e-mail lists. Remember it is at no extra cost to yourself! So far it has raised over £100 for the Trust.

Cheese and Wine

This closing social event held in the generator shed proved a great success and after costs raised £190 towards funds. Thanks to everyone who contributed and supported the event.
