In August, The 1745 Association commemorated the 330th anniversary of the Battle of Dunkeld in the grounds of Dunkeld Cathedral which was the site of the most intense fighting during the engagement.  A 27-minute video of the event produced by The 1745 Association, "Remembering Dunkeld", has been uploaded on YouTube at:

Our commemoration was intended to raise awareness and comprehension of that day when the ancient city of Dunkeld was destroyed in a terrible conflagration, and also as a mark of our respect for the Cameronians. My colleague Kevin Smith remarked during his tour that local people do not unduly emphasise this cathartic moment in their own history, which was also a turning point in Scottish and British history.  Nevertheless, the great cathedral of Dunkeld serves as an enduring memorial of the importance of tolerance and understanding, and the dangers of the alternative.

As George Santayana observed, "Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it.”
