Welcome

This is the website for Race Council Cymru’s 2016 pan-Wales project Black Wales – Our Wales, which is supported by the Big Lottery Fund’s Awards for All scheme.

What's happening and why?

Throughout the year we’ll be providing a series of exciting opportunities for organisations and individuals to find out more about our project's three core aims of:

  • Challenging racism
  • Celebrating the contributions and achievements of Black people, and
  • Identifying the shared history of Wales and Black people across the world.

Events will be held across Wales where we’ll showcase the work of Race Council Cymru and promote this year’s Black History Month theme of Young, Gifted and Black. Other organisations and community groups will also be sharing their work on Black history and challenging racism.

What can I do?

Our events, and the resources we’ve produced to accompany them, will provide practical ways to challenge racism – sadly, now much needed to fight the recent increase in hate crime across the country. They will also provide plenty of opportunity for discussion and debate on the challenges we face in Wales today.

Contact us if you want to showcase your work at our events or if you want to find out more.
