The Black German Shepherd tends to be confused by some people as being a separate breed than the classic German Shepherd. But the fact of the matter is that it’s a dog of the same breed – and the only difference comes in the striking black color that it has. When you look at it objectively, it’s a beautiful dog and a phenomenal choice for a pet.

There are a few minor differences between the two kinds of German Shepherds – the black versions tend to have flowing, feathering, or skirting coat that can range from short to long. They also tend to have a straighter back than their regular counterparts and they are also, on average, a bit bigger.

It’s very important to socialize your Black German Shepherd properly from the earliest age. If you get a young puppy of this breed, make sure that you frequently introduce it to novel stimulations. This includes letting the dog around new people, new dogs and other kinds of interesting animals – and letting the dog play in novel places that it has never visited before. If you do all of these things, then you will help build the character of the dog and it will become properly socialized and friendly to people.

The Black German Shepherd can grow up to be an immensely loyal, protective dog. The breed was originally created to guard the herd of sheep – hence the name. But even though you may have the dog as a pet – it will still exhibit this protectiveness – if it sees that you’re in danger it will do its best to protect you. If you socialize it properly, it will learn to be very friendly with people and dogs. The Black German Shepherds are not known to be aggressive – though it’s important to note that their temperament is, in part, hereditary. This means that if the ancestors of the particular dog showed a propensity for aggression – it may follow from this that the dog itself show some signs of aggression despite the fact of its good upbringing. This is why it’s important for you to do a bit of research on the family history of the particular dog that you wish to have as a pet.

This type of dog is also very friendly towards children. If you’re still afraid that something may go wrong – we advise you to carefully supervise the initial interactions between the child and the dog. In a vast majority of cases, the dog will show nothing but friendliness and protectiveness towards the child. In many cases, the dog even bonds with the child and the two of them become best friends.

Even though the German Shepherd is a phenomenal choice for a pet – it still has its drawbacks. For one, the entire breed tends to develop certain health problems at a certain age. The most important things that you need to look out for in this sense are the incidence of hip dysplasia and elbow dysplasia. These two conditions are not deadly – but they can ruin the quality of life of your dog if left unchecked. So, if you see that your dog has difficulties walking or winces when it sits down – it would be the best course of action for you to take the dog to the veterinarian for a diagnosis. If the vet diagnoses one of the two conditions, then you will be able to do a few things in order to improve the quality of life of your dog. You will be able to do frequent massages on the problematic sites for one and you will also be able to give the dog pain-reliever medications. You can also change up the diet of the dog – this is shown to help in many cases. In more extreme cases you may opt out for a surgery and hip replacement. Either way, in most cases these diseases are hereditary and nothing that you could have done would have prevented them. The average life-expectancy of the dog is 12-15 years.

This is a very intelligent dog and it responds very well to training. In fact, the German Shepherd is a dog used by police and military to sniff out narcotics and bombs – this goes to show how powerful an ally can the German Shepherd be to people. If you own a German Shephard – make sure that you enable it to do daily exercise. Make sure that you give it something to chew on – as its teeth also need regular chewing practice.
