Barkingside FC was formed in 1898 by a small group of enthusiasts to play in the local Ilford league.

Honours were gained just after the 1st World War when the Ilford league championship was won.

The club moved to its current Oakside home in 1957.

Preparation of the ground first begun shortly after this time involving the removal of many large concrete tank traps dating back to the 2nd World War. Some of these traps still remained well into the 1980’s.

The first game on the hallowed turf took place on Saturday 24th August 1957, and was a London League match up against Cray Wanderers. The ground banked on three sides and was intended that 15 foot terraces would be in place with changing rooms underneath.

The capacity would have been 10,000 but the plans collapsed and so a covered lean-to-area on top of the bank catering for 100 and backing onto the London Underground was instead implemented.

A fire which broke out in the early 1970’s forced Barkingside to play at Woodford Avenue until the present clubhouse was erected. And in 1976 the Essex Senior League turned the Side down for admission to the league as a result of the damage this fire previously caused.

A stand that was then erected many years later and seating 250 fans had to be withdrawn and destroyed due to failure of planning permission. And in 2002 a penalty area width terraced cover five steps deep behind the near goal was also removed due to this fact.

At the beginning of 2002/2003 the lease for the Oakside ground was acquired.

Jimmy Chapman the Chairman of Redbridge FC then became Honourary President of Barkingside FC as a gesture of his commitment that the club would survive.

It was 19th November 2003 that the ground saw the biggest attendance to date, Ford United(Now Redbridge) entertained Port Vale in the FA Cup 1st Round Replay with a massive crowd of 1,374.
