Allied Geotechnics and Northumbrian Water damage to Lumley Burn Park
05 March 2007
Allied Geotechnics and Northumbrian Water damage to Lumley Burn Park A site investigation into the soil conditions on the route of a proposed sewer through Lumley Burn Park, New Lambton, has resulted in several complaints to the Parish Clerk and the Treasurer of the Conservation Group. The facts are that Northumbrian Water Limited served an access notice on the District Council to enable a survey for a possible new sewer installation. District Council have keys to the access gate (12 metres from the route taken by Allied Geotechnics to access the site with their JCB) but it seems that no requirement was laid upon the contractor to use this designated route. The result of the access and investigation trenches dug has been the cause for the complaints lodged. Trees and part of the hedge planted under the Heritage Lottery "Connections" project have been removed, thrown aside and left strewn about. Trenches were not backfilled properly and the JCB has left tracks in the wet ground that could turn ankles or worse. Please be aware of these risks when walking in the area.
