      ASHLING CRICKET CLUB

Kindly sponsored by THE RICHMOND ARMS

Ashling Cricket Club plays to win, and tries to remain competitive, but we are part of no League structure and play the game in the amateur tradition of sportsmanship and camaraderie.

We look forward to the next hundred years. The beginnings of Ashling Cricket Club are shrouded in mystery, but the first recorded games took place in the 1880s at “Funtington field”.

Games were very low scoring with 30 being a winning score most weeks!

The current clubhouse has pictures dating back to 1905 with a particularly interesting one being of the West Ashling Cricket Club ladies team of 1910.

At its peak from the 1940s through to the mid-1980s the Club regularly played three fixtures a week on Saturdays, Sundays and midweek, but the more recent attractions of PlayStations and the Internet has meant that the Club is now a Sunday side in the English village tradition.
