The Blue Badge Scheme and the power to inspect Blue Badges being displayed on motor vehicles

The long-awaited date for inspection of the Blue Badge to become legal has been announced to be 29th September.
Whenever you display your Blue Badge on a vehicle, it can now be inspected. The people who are allowed to inspect your badge are police officers, traffic wardens and people working for the local authority who check that vehicles are parked properly (such as parking attendants and civil enforcement officers.) These people will be able to produce a photographic identity card or warrant card if requested to prove that they are authorised officers. If any of these people ask to see your Blue Badge, you should hand your Badge to them so that they can examine it and make notes from it. If you do not, you will be breaking the law.

Guidance for Blue Badge holders is now published by the Department for Transport in booklet form, but will only be sent to you as and when your Blue Badge is renewed by your local council over the next three years.
