BECKENHAM RETAIN 1066 WINNERS SHIELD
07 May 2012

Many congratulations to Beckenham men's seniors team, consisting of Ali Thorp, Jim Addison, Stuart Scott, Chris Lydon and Will Withecombe who retained the Trailguides 1066 Winners Shield with a winning time of 3 hrs 42.58 mins, winning the first two individual stages. However they were pushed all the way by newcomers Canterbury Harriers, who finished just 2 mins 40 secs behind in a time of 3 hrs 45.38 mins; with Petts Wood men's seniors a close 3rd in 3 hrs 49.31 mins.

Dulwich Runners Ladies won the women's trophy, coming 9th in 4 hrs 7.19 mins; whilst Dulwich Runners Ladies Vets won the women's vet trophy placing 16th in 4 hrs 24.05 mins. Serpentine RC's Team A won the mixed team award, coming 10th in a time of 4 hrs 12.07 mins.

Hastings AC won a close battle with local rivals Hastings Runners men's senior team  by just 3 mins, coming 5th in a time of 3 hrs 55.13 mins to claim both the men's vets trophy and the 1066 trophy for first local team; Hastings Runners came 6th with a time of 3 hrs 58.02 mins.

For the second year running Icklesham Casuals FC came 8th to take the unaffiliated team trophy, with a time of 4 hrs 3.01 mins. The Minnesota Loons retained their Long Distance trophy, travelling 4100 miles to take part in the event ....their winning margin over joint runners up Farnham AC and Comets RC was a fraction over 4000 miles!

ENTRIES NOW CLOSED AT 55 TEAMS!
05 May 2012

I am delighted to say that 55 teams will be taking part in Sunday's race, including last year's winners Beckenham RC, and other strong teams such as Dulwich Runners and Serpentine RC. Local rivalry for the 1066 Trophy will centre on Hastings AC, Hastings Runners and Icklesham Casuals FC; the latter look nailed on to land the unaffiliated team trophy which this year has 12 teams competing in this category. The Minnesota Loons, who have travelled 4100 miles from the USA to take part, are guaranteed winners of the long distance trophy for the second consecutive year!

The "going" is officially soft on most of the off-road sections, with the woodland areas being especially greasy and boggy in places. Off-road/trail shoes with excellent grip are recommended for Stages 2, 3 and 4 ... in fact you could easily wear fell shoes (but not spikes) for Stage 3 as the majority of this stage is off-road. Road shoes would be fine for Stages 1 and 5, which contain a higher percentage of lane and hard track and whose off-road sections drain better than the other stages.
